GLOBAL SPORTS EVENT QATAR 2022

Peter Owens was based in Doha for 9 months to develop the public realm strategy, landscape masterplan and study papers for a forthcoming major global sporting event in Qatar. The role developed a methodology for delivery of best practise cultural, sustainable and operational landscape architecture in the Middle East. The scope included differentiation of character and for each event precinct, the fan experience, accommodation, native planting, water sensitive design methodologies, local tree production, incorporation of public art, active and passive cooling with associated comfortable travel distances, interfaces with transport modes, security, the landscape / public realm briefs for precincts and other facilities in the country, international event crowd management and the benefits of vegetation on reducing AC loading.
