Wynwood Gateway Park, Miami

The intention of the Urban Cool Island was to create a vibrant and cultural refuge in the heart of Miami's Wynwood Arts District for community recreation and events throughout the week. Environmentally, the pocket park works on principles of passive cooling- not only for the site itself, but also as a step in counteracting urban heat island effects for neighbours. Evidence shows that shade provided by mature trees can significantly reduce air conditioning loading of shaded buildings. Colour was shortlisted for this competition for 238 entries worldwide.
