Transformation
of a failing 1960's roundabout into a high quality piece of public realm and
setting for the refurbished Swan house now 55 Degrees North; a mixed use
development including apartments, offices, bar, beauty salon and the local
radio station's studios.
New
connecting and collecting public spaces stitch together city public realm.
The objective
set for Colour was straightforward but challenging - transform notorious urban
dereliction within a roundabout into a premium setting.
The result
has been an iconic symbol of the vitality that characterizes the North East of
England in the 21st Century.
Apartments have sold for over £500,000, the bar is on Newcastle upon
Tyne's A-list and the city's commercial radio station has relocated to the
mixed-use development.
